With recessed baths, adequate waterproofing of the junction between the wall and the bath can be achieved using only a flexible sealant. Waterproofing vertical junctions is much easier than horizontal ones there is no possibility of pooling water, the bath is checked into the wall stud with the tile positioned flat on the bath (covering the bath lip and backing sheet join) leaving a 2mil joint for silicon.
Podium Baths.

This style of bath is quite common, especially with the increased popularity of spa baths which are nearly always of a podium type.
Although the edge is sealed against the tiled surface with a flexible sealant, pooling water can track through the grout lines under the rim of the bath.The continual feed of water by this process often results i dampness under the bath and damage to the baths supporting structure. The front edge of the bath and top of podium needs to be waterproofed then the bath fitted, the ideal situation here especially for timber floor is in this sequence,
