Which adhesives can i use for tile on tile.

There are a large range of adhesives for fixing tiles over tiles, preparation of the existing tiles is paramount.

Testing the old floor.

Before tiling of old existing tiles they must be tested by rolling a coin or a marble over the floor, this will give you a drummy sound if there is any faults, drummy or loose tiles in the floor, if the floor is solid then its okay to go ahead and tile if the floor is starting to loosen then depending on the extent of the damage to the floor you can fix the drummy spots by removing parts of the grout and filling the tiles with latex liquid such as Mapei Isolastic.

Preparation of the existing floor or wall tiles.

Always read and follow the application information on the label of your adhesive and use sugar soap to remove contaminants. ...Wash the old existing floor tiles with sugar soap, and for high glaze wall tiles in showers  we use a diamond cup grinder to take the glaze off, this allows us to either waterproof over the old tiles and tile over tile successfully.  

Tiling over tiles.

Use a recommended adhesive for tile over tile if you are fixing large tiles 400x400 and over you need to use a non slump adhesive, otherwise the tile will slump into the adhesive and lipping will occur.

Use a 10mil notch for 400x400 and under and 12mil for tiles bigger than 400x400.
